Ports of Auckland Round the Bays
The first Round the Bays was run by the Auckland Joggers club in 1972. In 2011 over 42,000 registered runners and an estimated 70,000 participants in total took part in what is now New Zealand’s largest mass participation sporting event.
The 8.4km run begins in the city on Quay St and finishes on the waterfront at St Heliers Bay. Ports of Auckland Round the Bays is owned by Fairfax Media and the Auckland Joggers Club. Sponsors include Ports of Auckland, The Sunday Star Times, Pump Water, Mobico, and Watercare Services Limited. Funds raised by the event are dedicated to children’s charities.
The 40th anniversary Ports of Auckland Round the Bays will be held on Sunday 18 March at 9.30am.
